Santa Crawl Details
First off, in case you're totally unfamiliar with what to expect on a Santa Crawl, you need to recognize what happens when 50 people in Santa Claus and Mrs/Ms Claus outfits drink alcoholic beverages for 5+ hours. Everyone has their own pace and we all know the popular labels for those that are too fast and too slow in their consumption. We hope (but do not promise) that everyone has a very enjoyable time and that this crawl turns into the great party we all expect it will be. The heads Santas will do their best to "mind the herd" but as even they may be swayed by the effects of various libations, all Santas should either plan to be responsible for knowing their own whereabouts or else wisely employ the buddy system.
The Crawl will take place down Granby Street in downtown Norfolk. Be aware that many people will be honking and waving at you in your costume for the better part of the night and that our group may attract many followers. The more you drink, the more this behavior by others seems acceptable. Be sure to meet as many of the other participating Santas as you can - you never know when you might need someone to help you out later that night.
Crawl Itinerary
All participating Santas must check in with the Head Santas at 4:30 PM on December 5th, 2009 in the lobby of the Tazewell Hotel. We will then all walk down to Hell's Kitchen in one large group and shortly before the official start of the big night at 5:00 PM. The planned lineup of seven bars is as follows:
- Hell's Kitchen
- Velvet Lounge
- Scotty Quixx
- Baxter's Sports Lounge
- Guadalajara City Cafe
- Time Lounge
- Premiere @ Granby Theater
At each stop, the Head Santas will ring bells announcing a "five-minute warning". This is your cue to finish anything you want to finish and pay anything you need to pay. The Head Santas will then ring bells again when it is time for the group to move on and all participating Santas will promptly exit the bar. Read the word promptly very carefully. It gives you at most a two minute grace period in which you won't get left behind. We emphasize this in order to make you be aware of your surroundings, because Santa can look real silly standing by himself at a bar.
Other Important Items
We will provide song sheets, candy canes, an itinerary with times & locations, and pictures. You may also want to bring additional Santa Hats, candy canes, bells, and anything else you deem appropriate and/or necessary. All participating Santas will vote on the most traditional and most creative santa costumes. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each contest.
